# How to read a Connecticut dealer or repairer license record

> What the license types mean, what the expiration date is, and what the file leaves out.

## How to read these records

### The license

One row per license. The letter that starts the number follows the license type. A business with several
locations or several activities holds several licenses, each with its own record.

### The types

General repairer: repairs motor vehicles. Used car dealer and new car dealer: sell them, and may also repair.
Leasing company, manufacturer, motor vehicle recycler: as named. Limited repairer licenses are not in this file.

### The expiration date

The date on the license in the file of October 1, 2026. A date already past may only mean a renewal not yet entered.

### What is not here

Complaints, disciplinary actions, and licenses issued after October 1, 2026. Entries marked “online registration
purposes only” in the state file are not business licenses and are not listed.
